Dry Needling

What is Dry Needling?

  • When the needle is inserted into the muscle, a microtrauma is created. This is beneficial for numerous reasons, a couple being:
    • the healing cells of the body will rush to that area and start healing the stimulated muscle where the cells see fit.
    • it causes an increase of blood flow to the area to help decrease the inflammation of the affected muscle.
  • After the muscle is inserted into the targeted muscle, a slight twisting and tugging motion is applied to the needle to initiate internal muscle fiber stretching. The needle is then left in the targeted muscle for 10-15 minutes, depending on the region.

How long does it take?

Depending on region, muscle tonicity, and patient tolerance, Dry Needling takes about 10-20 minutes per session. The first session will be slightly longer so the patient may ask any questions necessary.
